New Data Spaces for the Social Sciences | ENTAILab

ENTAILab

The projects of the Infrastructure Priority Programme “New Data Spaces for the Social Sciences” (SPP 2431) are supported and accompanied by SPP’s central project ENTAILab, the programme’s core infrastructural service and research center. The measures combined in ENTAILab represent the central and unifying element for the research, development, and transfer activities of the priority programme.

Measures

ENTAILab is dedicated to the use of existing research infrastructures, their advancement and the demand-oriented generation of a new research infrastructure for the needs of the SPP projects and the development of new data spaces. ENTAILab creates a unique infrastructure for research-based innovations in the field of survey data and beyond.

Together with additional components and services, the aim is to meet the needs of the diverse projects within the SPP and to disseminate the results and deliverables resulting from their work.

ENTAILab integrates four measures:

  • Build on and Develop Existing Panel Studies
  • Research-driven Infrastructure for Advanced Survey-related Data (CIRCLET)
  • Protection and Data Ethics
  • Results for Future Data Spaces and Open Science

The measures of ENTAILab will not only offer infrastructural services for the research projects in the SPP, but will work on specific, mostly overarching research and development questions. ENTAILab is crucial for producing the SPP’s planned deliverables by addressing overarching questions that arise from and are inherent to the scope of the programme, including the aim to further develop the existing research (infrastructures) and data landscapes through innovative survey designs and instruments as well as through new possibilities of data linkage. Questions that are addressed relate to the challenges, potentials, and risks of new data types and designs as well as sustainability.

Results for Future Data Spaces and Open Science

The overall coordination and the ENTAILab measure Results for Future Data Spaces and Open Science is located at LIfBi. It addresses the emerging research needs and overarching challenges of the research areas of the SPP. To support the SPP projects, to go beyond their individual perspectives, and to guarantee sustainable results, which can be used by social science beyond the programme, the measure works on high-quality deliverables for future data spaces and reproducibility in four interrelated tasks.

The first task is to integrate and systematize SPP results. To provide these results, further services, and, together with the coordination project team, to conceptualize conferences and generate transferable deliverables for the wider scientific community and the public comprises the second task. Thirdly, the measure seeks to explore needs beyond the SPP.
