Further Education, Doctorate, Networks

We see further education as lifelong learning for all employees. We focus not only on work skills, but also on social and personal competencies.

The staff unit "Promoting Junior Researchers and Further Education" continuously organizes offers for scientific qualification and continuing education and is the contact point for specific qualification and consulting offers for doctoral students and postdocs. In addition, the staff unit also keeps an eye on all other employee groups at LIfBi and develops qualification offers for the entire institute on the basis of needs surveys in coordination with the institute's management. The offers are made in cooperation with the Otto-Friedrich-University Bamberg and the Leibniz Association and are continuously coordinated with the cooperation partners. In addition, centrally organized further education offers of the Leibniz Association are available to all employees as self-learning units at any time.

LIfBi Lectures Series, Colloquia and Research Seminars

At LIfBi there is a centrally organized lecture series "LIfBi Lectures". This forms an open scientific dialog platform across disciplinary boundaries and institute departments. The lecture series gives young scientists in particular the opportunity to network with international guest researchers and engage in interdisciplinary dialogue in various formats around the lectures.

In addition, the scientific departments organize colloquia or research seminars during the semester, which are open to all employees.

Promotion of young researchers at the LIfBi

The Institute offers doctoral programs in various disciplines, especially in the fields of empirical educational research, psychology, educational science and sociology. In addition to the professional supervision, which is also (but not exclusively) provided by the professors working at the Institute, the LIfBi offers extensive opportunities for the promotion of young researchers, opportunities to participate in conferences and continuing education programs, as well as financial support for stays abroad. The 65% doctoral positions financed through the core budget follow a two-phase model (3 + 2 years).

A doctoral student representation elected by all doctoral students provides support and networking for young researchers in this special career phase. The elected postdoc representation advocates for the concerns and interests of all doctoral employees at the institute, regardless of their current position and plans for their further career.

LIfBi Mentoring

Early career researchers with a doctorate can participate in the LIfBi mentoring program. The mentees are provided with experienced mentors. Generally, these are LIfBi Research Affiliates, i.e. external scientists who bear this honorary title due to their collaboration with LIfBi and NEPS. Through mentoring, mentees are supported in identifying and developing their own skills and utilizing them in a targeted manner for career planning and personal development. In addition, mentoring promotes networking within the specialist academic community and beyond the boundaries of their own discipline. By participating in the program, mentors are given the opportunity to reflect on their own careers and at the same time gain insights into the current situation of early career researchers.

The specific topics and goals of the mentoring program are determined jointly by the mentee and mentor. Initial contact is established via the LIfBi's staff position Junior Researchers and Further Education.

Good networking opportunities for young scientists

Young scientists at the Institute benefit from the various networks for young scientists as well as from other offers of the Leibniz Association and the University of Bamberg, and also actively contribute here themselves

Use of the University Library

Last but not least, our employees can use the entire range of services offered by the university libraries of the Otto Friedrich-University, including the Bavarian State Library located in Bamberg, with a free library card.
