Education in Germany - National Report on Education

Aim

The education report has been part of the "Comprehensive Strategy on Education Monitoring" since 2006. The express goal of this strategy – developed by the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs of the Länder in the Federal Republic of Germany (KMK), and the federal government itself – is to prepare and provide information for political action by way of ongoing and data-driven observations and analyses. The report is intended to reach different actors in education politics, education administration, and education practice. Furthermore, the report also provides information on trends within the education sector to an interested public, the scientific community, and teachers and learners.

Background

The report "Education in Germany", which appears every two years, provides a comprehensive picture of the current state of the German education sector. Indicators are established which illustrate the performance of the various fields of the German educational sector. Working from a life course perspective, this begins at the elementary level and moves through the school sector, vocational training, higher education, and professional development.

Approach

The report "Education in Germany 2024" continues with the indicators used in the past; at the same time, new indicators are also applied. The relevant project at the LIfBi offers support and cooperation, and is also jointly responsible for the chapter which focuses on presenting in detail the effects and returns of education in various fields and contexts (individual, societal, educationally systemic).

National Report on Education 2024

Titelbild Bildungsbericht 2024The Leibniz Institute for Educational Trajectories is responsible for chapter I, "Educational Trajectories, Competence Development and Returns to Education". The report is based on data from the National Educational Panel Study (NEPS), among other data sources.
