David Kaplan is an internationally renowned expert in the field of quantitative methods in educational research. For example, he received the Alexander von Humboldt Research Award in 2015 and was recently elected President of the Psychometric Society. In addition, Kaplan was a visiting professor at the University of Bamberg in 2018 and was already a guest at LIfBi at that time. As an outstanding cooperator, LIfBi awarded him the honorary status of LIfBi Research Affiliate in 2019.
Kaplan's scientific interests include Bayesian approaches to model averaging, missing data, probabilistic forecasting, and dynamic borrowing from historical data. During his current stay in Heidelberg, Kaplan conducts workshops and lectures, among other topics, on the development and application of Bayesian statistical methods. One focus is on large-scale education studies, such as PISA, in which his methodological approaches are applied.
