Alternating annually, the LIfBi Research Awards and LIfBi Infrastructure Award recognise exceptional achievements in the domains of research and infrastructure made by LIfBi employees. Employees on various stages of their careers are eligible for nomination.
Research and infrastructure are core areas of work at LIfBi and outstanding achievements in these areas are of central importance to the institute. LIfBi is now emphasizing this claim to excellence with two LIfBi Research Awards and one LIfBi Infrastructure Award. The prizes are awarded alternately every three years.
"I am very pleased that we will be able to recognize dedicated LIfBi employees for their excellent achievements," said LIfBi Director Prof. Dr. Cordula Artelt at the announcement of the new award system. "We would like to honor outstanding contributions and give them more visibility within the institute."
Starting with LIfBi Research Awards
In 2025, the LIfBi Research Awards will initially acknowledge postdocs and, one year later, doctoral candidates for outstanding publications. Nominations for individuals or groups can be submitted by the department heads and the Director. The decision for the award winner will ultimately be made by the LIfBi Scientific Advisory Board.
Infrastructural innovations
From 2027, innovations in the area of infrastructure will be acknowledged for the first time with the LIfBi Infrastructure Award. This will honor achievements in the areas of survey management, instrument implementation, data provision and administrative processes, among others, which sustainably improve the quality of the infrastructure and related services at LIfBi. Individuals or a group of employees who have been involved in an important innovation for the LIfBi are eligible for the award and can be nominated by the Director, the Administrative Director and the department heads. The award winners are selected by the LIfBi Management Conference.
