The LIfBi Board of Directors, Prof. Dr. Cordula Artelt and Dr. Stefan Echinger, started the meeting with an overview of the research landscape in Germany and an introduction to the history and mission of the institute. The focus was particularly on the National Education Panel Study, as LIfBi's data treasure and core study, and its significance for the National Education Report.
LIfBi researchers Dr. Karin Gehrer and Dr. Dave Möwisch then presented the visitors with various instruments used for data collection in NEPS. Dave Möwisch demonstrated the "Flanker", a test procedure from early education research that measures competencies of 4 year old children. Test developer Karin Gehrer presented an excerpt from competency tests in the areas of reading, computer knowledge, mathematics, and science for adults. The members of the Rotary Club had the opportunity to slip into the role of a NEPS participant and take the tests themselves.
