Pupils with special educational needs in nationwide program for student assessment

On June 5, 2012, representatives of the PISA study, the Institute for Quality Development in the Educational System (IQB), the German Institute for International Educational Research (DIPF) and the National Educational Panel Study met in order to discuss the challenges regarding studies concerning student assessments for pupils with special educational needs (SEN).

Already, NEPS has established two task forces dealing with pupils with SEN at special needs schools (Sonder- und Förderschulen, FÖS) and focusing on “learning”, as well as dealing with pupils with SEN who are being taught integratively at regular schools (IntFös). Studies among these groups of pupils raise issues on a methodical and administrative level which affect basically all student assessments into which those groups of pupils are integrated. Until then, there had been almost no exchange of ideas between the different studies regarding this matter. Therefore, the aim of the meeting was to discuss problematic aspects and talk about the strategies previously employed in each study. Thus, this meeting paved the way for future cooperation and NEPS is looking forward to further collaboration.
