The current Scientific Use File (doi:10.5157/NEPS:SC4:10.0.0) contains new information from the tenth wave of the NEPS ninth-graders starting cohort. The survey was carried out from autumn 2016 to summer 2017 in the form of personal face-to-face interviews including competence testing in the domains of mathematics and reading (CAPI, alternatively CATI without competence measurement) among school-leavers and individually tracked pupils. Part of the sample was also invited to take part in a subsequent online survey (CAWI). Similarly, but with different field times and questionnaire as well as test contents, the survey was conducted among former pupils of Hauptschule and special-need schools.

There you will also find the Release Notes with explanations on the current data edition as well as numerous other materials. Later this year an updated Data Manual with comprehensive information about the survey design and the research data of Starting Cohort 4 will be made available there.
