Due to the huge success last year, the National Educational Panel Study also visited this year’s annual meeting of the American Sociological Association (ASA), which took place in Denver, Colorado, from August 17-20. Together with representatives of the
German Research Foundation (DFG), scientists from the four biggest panel studies in Germany (
SOEP,
SHARE,
PAIRFAM, and NEPS) were available for conversation throughout the whole meeting at the exhibition stand
“Research in Germany”. Thus, direct contact between these German panel studies and mainly US-American scientists was enabled and intensified. In addition to this, there was also a reception at the exhibition stand which was well-attended by the international audience. The policy and research workshop “Innovative Longitudinal Tools for International Research in the Social Sciences”, which was organized in addition to the exhibition stand by Prof. Dr. Bernhard Nauck, Managing Director and Spokesperson for the PAIRFAM-Study, also attracted wide interest. After some introductory words by Dr. Eckard Kämper, Program Director of the Group Humanities and Social Sciences of the DFG, the panel studies introduced themselves. This year’s presentations of panel studies at the annual meeting of the ASA were seen as a huge success by all involved. Another joint presentation of panel studies has already been envisaged for ASA 2013 on the subject of “Interrogating Inequality: Linking Micro and Macro”.
