The National Education Panel has long since gained recognition not only within Germany's borders. Its reputation as the largest national education research project precedes it. Researchers from various countries around the world come to the NEPS control center in Bamberg to exchange ideas, learn from each other and pass on knowledge. Not least in order to be able to take over structures or work processes into their own projects in their own countries.
From June 3 to 5, three researchers from the Higher School of Economics (HSE) in Moscow were guests in Bamberg to exchange ideas with NEPS managers during a workshop. Their motivation was to conduct their own large-scale longitudinal study of the educational trajectories of Russian citizens. "The large-scale project, which was launched by a handful of Russian researchers in 2009, is called the "Russian longitudinal study of educational and professional trajectories. Within three major survey waves (2009, 2012 and 2015), data of the Russian population will be collected and analyzed.
The first day of the workshop was dedicated to the presentation of both projects. There was a great deal of interest on both sides, so that the topics quickly turned to detailed problems of data collection and analysis. The second day dealt with the strategies of data collection and the process leading to data analysis. In the course of this, data protection was also made a topic. The Russian guests received a detailed introduction to the NEPS database on the last day of the workshop. The focus was on the data of the start cohort 4 - grade 9.
