The tasks of KonsortSWD, which will be processed over the next five years with funding from the German Research Foundation (DFG), are divided into four work areas and will be implemented by a large number of participating institutions. LIfBi is responsible for work area 2 "Data Access". Prof. Dr. Christian Aßmann, applicant and head of the department "Research Data Center and Method Development" at LIfBi, represents this as co-spokesperson in the steering committees of KonsortSWD. An essential element in this work area is the coordination of the FDI Committee, in which all research data centers accredited by the RatSWD are represented, including the LIfBi Research Data Center (FDZ-LIfBi). With Dr. Daniel Fuß, the FDZ-LIfBi provides one of the two chairpersons of the committee. In addition, LIfBi is in charge of the subprojects TA2.5 "Forum" and TA2.6 "Funding FDM" as well as TA3.4 "Coding" of KonsortSWD.
The subproject "Funding FDM" supports the preparation and provision of relevant new data corpora for secondary use. Until April 30, 2021, holders of datasets in tandem with an FDZ can apply for funding for a data management project. The goal is to open up qualitative and quantitative data holdings that are not yet accessible to the scientific community for secondary use. In this way, researchers can make their data available to the scientific community and benefit from the professional data management of an FDZ to increase the visibility of their data and the reach of their research.
Decisions on funding for requested projects will be made based on the recommendations of the FDI Committee in June 2021. Approved projects can begin their work as of July 1, 2021 and will be funded for one year.
