During her guest stay, Dr. Jenny Chesters provided information about her own research work in two lectures.
In a first guest lecture on "The Australian Education System and Alternative Pathways into University", she gave an overview of the Australian education system and pathways into higher education. The labor market in Australia is increasingly demanding skilled workers, and at the same time, higher education institutions have opened up to non-traditional students over time. Dr. Jenny Chesters used administrative data to examine the pathways of non-traditional students in tertiary education.
In her second presentation, "Returns to Education for Those Who Return to Education," she presented findings from her research based on an analysis of data from the Household, Income and Labour Dynamics in Australia (HILDA) study (2001-2009). According to the study, non-traditional students (mature-age students) are more likely to be employed full-time in the year after graduation and have higher wages than younger graduates.
