Dr. Ebrahim Talaee from Tarbiat Modares University Tehran visits NEPS

Dr. Ebrahim Talaee, Assistant Professor of Educational Research at the Faculty of Humanities, Tarbiat Modares University in Tehran, was a guest at NEPS from July 22 to August 11, 2013.

During his stay, Ebrahim Talaee gave two presentations. His presentation, "Exploring Early Years Education (ECE) and Pre-Schooling in Iran: Quality, Challenges and Promises," outlined the design, methodology and results of an ongoing research project in a city in Iran. The project is intended to serve as a cornerstone for the design and implementation of a longitudinal study of children ages 3 to 12. The goal of the study is to explore underlying knowledge and beliefs of all ECE participants regarding ECE and to examine the application of their findings to children in real-world contexts. In a second presentation, Ebrahim Talaee presented findings from the UK EPPSE (Effective Pre-school, Primary & Secondary Education) study in relation to the nature of children and young people's computer use and the impact on their reading and mathematics achievement.

Organized and accompanied by staff from Stage 2 "Kindergarten and Transition to Primary School" and Stage 3 "Primary School and Transition to Lower Secondary School", Ebrahim Talaee also took the opportunity to visit a school and two daycare centers in the Bamberg district "from the inside" and to talk to the management and pedagogical staff. He was thus able to gain important impressions and take away many ideas for his further research.
