Visiting Adam Gamoran at the National Education Panel in Bamberg

From Nov. 14 to Nov. 16, 2011, Adam Gamoran (John D. MacArthur Professor of Sociology and Educational Policy Studies and former Dean of the Department of Sociology at the University of Wisconsin Madison) was a guest at the National Education Panel in Bamberg.

During his stay, Adam Gamoran gave two presentations. The first talk, entitled "Accountability and Inequality in U.S. Education," provided an overview of the development of evaluation programs to assess the performance of individual schools by the federal government in the U.S. In his second talk, Adam Gamoran presented preliminary results from a large experimental study in school districts in Phoenix and San Antonio (both U.S.) that estimated the causal effect of social capital on several educationally relevant variables ("Causal Effects of Social Capital on Child Outcomes," more information:

During his stay, Adam Gamoran was in lively exchange especially with the young scientists at NEPS.
