On January 11, the NEPS visited the Educational Research Institute (IBE) Poland in Warsaw once again. Michał Federowicz, Director of IBE, presented his institute and gave an overview of the projects situated there, such as PIAAC and Share. Afterwards, Hans-Günther Roßbach and Jutta von Maurice introduced the NEPS, especially its structure and its communication with both the general public and the ministries. During the second part of the meeting, the adult studies of IBE (UDE) and NEPS (Stage 8) were presented. A very constructive discussion ensued identifying the differences and also a large number of similarities between the studies. The survey UDE of IBE is carried out in cooperation with experts of the Warsaw School of Economics. It is a household survey conducted every two years among people between ages 15 and 65 years. It gathers retrospective data on occupational, family, and educational biographies, as well as different theoretical constructs in the field of educational decisions and personality development. Subsequently, a presentation by Michael Ruland gave an in-depth insight into the development of samples regarding the starting cohort and into the diverse survey content used throughout the NEPS adult cohort. In the course of the ensuing discussion, many views on experiences and challenges concerning the implementation of surveys, the collection of retrospective data, and the provision of data to the scientific community were exchanged. This second visit particularly served to identify further potential opportunities for cooperation. The colleagues of the IBE were also invited to visit the NEPS in Bamberg to take part in one of the user trainings and to also get into closer contact with colleagues from the Data Center and the adult stage.
