On November 15, the conference “Research Desiderata in the Field of Education and Region“ took place on the premises of the National Educational Panel Study. The meeting began with a panel discussion during which Prof. Hartmut Ditton, Prof. Caroline Kramer, Prof. Annette Scheunpflug, Prof. Volker Stocké, and Prof. Horst Weishaupt made brief statements to give a first overview of the current state of research and of existing desiderata. Summarizing, the experts agreed on the fact that more theoretical and empirical groundwork using suitable statistical procedures needs to be done and that a necessary foundation must be laid for such basic data structures.

Subsequent to the discussion, more than 70 participants had the opportunity to attend 13 technical lectures in thematically grouped panel sessions, in which “Education and Region“ were examined in a specific way, partly taking an empirical or theoretical approach. Overall, many exciting discussions ensued and it became apparent that this topic is highly relevant for our times.
