The Leibniz Institute for Educational Trajectories was founded as an association in Berlin on May 29, 2013. The General Meeting of Members decides, among other things, upon changes to its statutes. The Board of Trustees advises and controls the Board of Directors. Their tasks include, for example, the appointment and exoneration of the members of the Board of Directors as well as approving the program budget. The Scientific Advisory Board advises the Board of Trustees on these tasks, considering recommendations by the Senate of the Leibniz Association. It regularly carries out measures of quality assurance on currently running operations.
Representative officers or elected representatives deal with various tasks and issues concerning the organization. The main contact persons for external parties are the corporate Internal Data Protection Officer and the Ombudspersons. Furthermore, the LIfBi has elected representatives for its employees (Works Council), the disabled colleagues (disabled persons' representation), the doctoral and postdoctoral candidates, and representative officers for equal opportunities and inclusion, as well as corporate health management and an ethics committee.
The works council represents the interests of all employees at LIfBi. As a democratically legitimated representation, the committee acts as the spokesperson for the staff and takes care of collective needs as well as individual support.
