Research

We understand education and competence development as a lifelong process - which is why longitudinal research is of central importance to us at LIfBi. In doing so, we take a look at many different facets: from digitization to inclusion to the integration of refugees, from early childhood to schooling to training and further education on the labor market. We work in an interdisciplinary manner and are thus able to examine fundamental and current topics from different research perspectives.

NEPS | National Educational Panel Study

The National Educational Panel Study is the largest long-term educational study in Germany. By continuously interviewing and testing more than 70,000 people, an internationally significant treasure trove of data is being created and is growing, which can be used to research educational processes from birth to high adulthood.

The NEPS combines the expertise of more than 200 scientists at more than 13 locations throughout Germany and is based at LIfBi in Bamberg.

Large Scale Projects

More projects

At the Leibniz Institute for Educational Trajectories, education is researched in an interdisciplinary manner and in many different facets. This includes both large-scale projects to collect data for educational research and studies to investigate specific issues, for which, among other things, the rich, longitudinal data of the NEPS provide an ideal data basis. Third-party funded projects at LIfBi often address socially relevant issues and contribute their results to political and public discourse. Various funding sources and cooperation partners, including the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the German Research Foundation (DFG), support LIfBi in this endeavor.

Transfer

In order to communicate our research results and transfer our scientific expertise, LIfBi prepares the most important topics and activities of LIfBi, for example in the annual report, LIfBi news and the newsletter LIfBi info. Our transfer reports present research results in a generally understandable way.

Research areas

What makes education successful? Can education compensate for social disadvantages? What is the impact of digitalisation in education? The Leibniz Institute for Educational Trajectories focuses on the conditions, processes and effects of education, as well as on methodological aspects of educational research. An insight into the five research areas of LIfBi.
